Although the CMA trademark was registered by the SAAJ on 14 April 2000, unauthorized use by The Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) of the US and Prometric Japan, an entity commissioned with conducting IMA exams, has been discovered on the Internet.

Namely, IMA has been using ‘CMA’ as an abbreviation for its “Certified Management Accountant” designation in promoting its examination programs.

The SAAJ has also confirmed that some “Certified Management Accountant” holders in Japan use ‘CMA’ on their name cards.

Therefore, SAAJ has demanded that IMA immediately cease using ‘CMA’.
